Taiwan RoHS vs EU RoHS
Taiwan RoHS is a disclosure requirement set by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) under the national standard CNS 15663, "Guidance to reduction of the restricted chemical substances in electrical and electronic equipment." It applies to electrical and electronic products that fall under BSMI's mandatory inspection scheme, phased in by product type.
How Taiwan RoHS differs from EU RoHS
- Disclosure, not a ban - products may contain restricted substances above the limits, but the manufacturer must declare their presence, part by part, in a "Declaration of the Presence Condition of the Restricted Substances Marking" table on the product, packaging, manual or a website.
- Substances - six: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB and PBDE, with the same limits as EU RoHS. The four EU RoHS 3 phthalates are not included.
- Marking - the presence table is part of BSMI product certification and the Commodity Inspection Mark, not CE marking.
